How to

Give your pictures that hipster vibe, no smartphone necessary

Hipster photo editing sites

Uploading pictures to your social networking accounts, blog, or website isn’t what it used to be. It’s better. There are so many apps that can make your photos hipster-esque by improving the quality and adding on of a number of unique filters and flair. But what you may not know is you can create amazingly hipster photos without having a smartphone or even a phone in general. All you need is access to a computer and internet access. Really, that’s it.

As long as you have a camera on your phone, you can use access PicPlz.com and use the mobile site to apply filters to your photos. Or, you also have the option to upload your photos onto your computer and then upload those photos to your online PicPlz account – no phone is required!. While PicPlz also has a smartphone app which is beneficial for both professional and personal uses, it offers many other options for those without smartphones or prefer to use other methods.

But if you don’t have the technology necessary to use apps or you just don’t want to use them, you have more options than just PicPlz to consider. Last year, AGBeat introduced you to five photo-editing chrome extensions that anyone can use. These extensions included Psykopaint, Picnik, BeFunky, Aviary, and Pixlr-o-matic. Through these extensions and online programs, you can lighten photos, add text and borders, and control brightness, exposure, and hue—to name a few options. All of these extensions can be accessed and effectively used with or without the use of a smartphone. Other related photo-editing sites not included in our previous article include Pixenate and FotoFlexer, and most of them are completely free.

One of the best ways to find the right online photo editing service is to ask around, research your options, and test out a few. That’s the only way you’ll find which one works best for your hipster-photo needs. All you have to do is add special effects, cool fonts and text, and apply fun filters, and you don’t even have to own a smartphone.

Since they announced the pending demise of Picnik, I've been trying out another site very similar to it called Ipiccy.com. It also has an add-on for your Chrome browser. They are working hard on migrating all the most popular Picnik features over to Ipiccy, and also some features from other picture editors that Picnik didn''t have. When they're done it should be an awesome site for image editing. It's free right now, but they are also debating on offering a premium site like Picnik did. I highly recommend the site.
