(Social Media) IFTTT, one of our favorite web tools ever, has launched an iPad app, become location aware, and added collections.

IFTTT makes some hefty updates

IFTTT (which stands for “if this, then that,”) is known as the duct tape of the internet, making apps and sites that don’t normally talk to each other, actually play nicely with each other. You can set up “recipes” to get a text any time your boss tweets, or make it automatically blog for you with every Instagram picture you take. Genius.

Today, the company announced their long awaited iPad app so you can get native push notifications regarding your recipes, and they have profiled collections of recipes and grouped them in a visually appealing, easy to understand way that will help people to automate more of their day and boost productivity levels.

Users with custom recipes will celebrate the native iOS push notifications because some apps don’t have push notifications built in, so this opens up doors to more custom recipes. Bingo!

Additionally, with the new push notifications, you can reset some of your existing recipes that are emailing or texting you to be a notification instead, reducing the number of places you have to look for alerts.

Curated collections make it so much easier

One of the challenges of IFTTT is creativity, and sometimes the magical combinations are best left to others, so IFTTT’s announcement that there will be curated collection sections in the apps helps you to browse better, and keep up with new recipes.

The apps will be rotated through, each week, and this also highlights the expansive number of combinations that can be created, prompting even further creativity that can automate your day.

But wait, there’s more

Lastly, IFTTT announced location triggers to the iOS Photos channel, so that some actions are only taken when you shoot in a pre-determined area (so, “if I take a picture in X location, automatically post it on Instagram,” but if you take a picture outside of that zone, no action will be taken). Nice.

IFTTT has come a long way since it launched, but it can be a tremendous time saver, and add automation to your life that you never knew you needed. Go check out the new iPad app, or their website, and get to cooking up your own recipes!
