NerdNearby aggregates social media near you

May 23, 2011

Over the weekend at the TechCrunch Disrupt Hackathon, NerdNearby was presented, a new app that calls itself “like Color, except for services you actually use” and is a very simple app that can tell where you are via GPS and aggregates everything near you.

Twitter updates, location based service checkins, shared photos and more pop up on your smartphone in an instant.

TechCrunch writer Jason Kincaid said, “There’s no signup process — the only thing you need to do is grant the site access to your location (a feature that’s supported by modern browsers on both PCs and phones). The content is presented in a simple interface pictured at right that looks quite nice in mobile browsers. Obviously it’s basic, but that’s to be expected from a site that was built in less than 24 hours.”

It is an extremely new company, so it has a lot of room to grow and will have hiccups along the way, but the concept of NerdNearby is amazing for a Realtor with an extra hour on their hands that wants to see what’s going on around them or maybe line up an impromptu coffee. What uses can you see for NerdNearby?
