Call off the crew

With digital video in such high demand whenever a venue hosts an event, they gawk at the chance to record and stream digitally so that people who didn’t attend still get to enjoy. But do you much how much it costs to have a full camera crew come in and record, manage, and edit streaming footage?

I did some research and found that venues could spend upwards of $7,000 just to get it done. This may seem like a small fee for large, well known venues; but for smaller venues with just as much entertainment, that fee is likely out of budget. Which is why Clone.tv, a unique resolution to streaming video, will be a hit for both venues large and small.

Pan, tilt, zoom

Clone.tv is an automated video platform for live entertainment that takes the hassle and cost out of finding a production crew while still delivering captivating and brilliant video content to your iPad.

On the venue side of things, Clone.tv is amazing because instead of a six man film crew, their team found a way to pack six men into just one box with their use of algorithms and pan-tilt-zoom cameras. These algorithms synchronize with the cameras and speeds across three planes of motion to deliver smooth, seamless and non robotic on-air motion shots. The software is just as smart, as it learns your favorite shots, records them, and runs the show on autopilot for hands free broadcasting. Along with production, Clone.tv provides social engagement features, complete with personalized landing pages, embedable players, counters, show listings, user chat, payment processing, and soon trackID to identify song tracks over live video.

Get the best seat in the house

On the user side of things: Clone.tv gives you the chance to watch and maneuver live entertainment from various views.

Users have several features available to them that make this experience one of a kind. First is an automated switcher that runs on 8 different cameras, and switches views of the event automatically and seamlessly. Let’s say you have a favorite view though. You can turn this auto option off to enjoy whichever shot you prefer by getting a real-time 8 camera view to choose from.

Play around with it

Clone.tv has won a number of awards for its innovation, including admittance into SXSW Accelerator.

However, I can’t help but think about one major con. Yes, venues may be saving money, but they’re also displacing camera crews whose main focus is to provide streaming content. That’s almost $1000 some camera-man somewhere is losing out on. But such is the world of evolving innovation.

If you want to play around with Clone.tv to get a better idea of how it works, you can go to their website and enter your information for a sneak peek. You can also head to their website to see a live event that was actually captured by their top of the line cameras.
