McDonald’s testing mac and cheese for kiddos, we disapprove

McMac-n-Cheese being tested in Ohio

Dear McDonald’s,

You were doing so well. You had kids all over the country believing that a Happy Meal meant chicken nuggets and apples. Finally, a Happy Meal didn’t have to be just a cheeseburger, fries and a soda.

It made an aunt like me feel not completely bad about letting my niece and nephew order from your restaurants. Throw in some wholesome milk, and it was almost like I was feeding them a healthy meal.

Now you’ve done it, McD’s

But now you’ve done it. Now you’ve thrown mac-n-cheese onto the list of options, and a small hamburger – with its little bit of redeeming protein, much less the chicken – may as well not exist. What kid in their right little kid mind is going to choose anything else over ooey gooey cheesy macaroni?

From what I’m reading online on BrandEating.com, this mac-n-cheese will only be available “for a limited time” and in only 18 of your restaurants in Ohio. But what if the kids – and heck, even some grownups – in Ohio love it? Are you going to keep it around? Will it end up in your locations across the country? Will my niece and nephew never eat halfway healthy again?

Grow or die, right?

I get it. You’re a business. Grow or die, right? But before adding mac-n-cheese as a Happy Meal entrée, did you consider the grilled chicken wrap? Kids love tortillas. Wrap a healthy chicken breast and some colorful veggies up in there. I bet they’d eat it. I mean, even skip the veggies and wrap that grilled chicken with orange slices or apples.

What about grilled nuggets? We know the breaded ones are popular – maybe because they’re good or maybe just because they’re one of only three choices. Let’s grill some up for a Happy Meal!

Perhaps you thought about cold sandwiches and soups and fruit/veggie kebabs and even fish wraps before you decided mac-n-cheese was the way to go.

Mac-n-cheese. Really?

Sincerely,
An aunt who wants a better option.
