Two contests that educate homeowners on green living

I am always on the prowl for unique ways to touch my client base with useful information and thought I would pass along some corporate events happening in conjunction with earth month.

First up: Target

The first is from Target.  They  have created the Refresh your Nest sweepstakes to promote their new EcoBotique which is an online source for all of the sustainable and environmentally friendly lines they carry.  (I love this contest regardless but some of the products are guilty of “green washing” to me.)

The grand prize is up to 50k for a sustainable make over to your home.  However, Target having, you know, some real corporate sway, has lined up a crazy ridiculous amount of sponsors who are offering everything from basic skin care products all the way up to an eco friendly trip through wine country for two.

All in all for just a bit of time, it’s a great opportunity for your clients to get some education from Target about greening their homes and become eligible for some amazing prizes.

Second to bat: Recycle Bank

Recycle Bank’s Green Your Home is a very cool contest with a grand prize of 18k towards a green kitchen make over with Danny Seo.

This is an educational program that takes you through room by room and gives suggestions on both improvements and behavioral changes that could impact your over all environmental foot print and rewards you with points on completion of each room.

What I love about this, is that it’s a contest with a scoring system and not a drawing and there is even a posted leader board on the site.  In addition there are multiple first and second place prize winners with a whole slew of cool products for your home.

Anna Altic – Village Real Estate Services. I’ve called Nashville home for the last 15 years and have been practicing (practice being the key word here) real estate for just over 6 years. In the fall of 2007, I went to a local German Festival that had a home tour, including a LEED certified property, and I instantly became enamored with the idea of eco friendly living (ok, so I’d had a little beer and the dual flush toilet rocked my world). I have since devoted much of my time and energies in to studying and espousing the benefits of better building technology within our local residential market and my proudest accomplishment thus far has been successfully leading the initiative to get over 25 green features added to our MLS search fields.
