How the annual #FairTuesday has grown in a short time

How #FairTuesday works

For those of you already starting to think about holiday shopping or looking for ideas on what to get friends and loved ones for upcoming special occasions, consider adopting a more ethical approach to gift giving this year. Global Goods Partners is currently sponsored on WeDidIt’s crowdfunding platform and is responsible for spearheading the #FairTuesday annual event that takes place each December and urges consumers to make more ethical shopping decisions during the holiday season.

The organization is a third of the way to its goal of raising $5,000 by August 30th and prides itself on collectively employing more than 3,000 women worldwide who craft fair trade gifts such as scarves and clothing in exchange for a fair living wage.

#FairTuesday has grown substantially

The organization was started in 2005 by Catherine Lieber Shimony and Joan Shifrin as part of a mission to help women in lower income countries generate income by utilizing their talent to make accessories and other fair trade goods for the consumer marketplace. So far the organization has raised $1,595 dollars and still needs a little over $3,400 to meets its campaign goal by Friday.

In the past, #FairTuesday has garnered participating from more than three million people and was officially launched by Global Goods Partners in 2012 including 135 partners in 13 countries. Now in its second year, the organization has high hopes to promote continued success.

Global Goods Partners has set its $5,000 goal in order to obtain enough funding for the #FairTuesday redesign so that it will be up and fully functional in advance of the December 3rd event date. After a substantial success last year, the nonprofit aims to create a more interactive website that will “reach out to new consumers looking to buy gifts that give back.”
