50 billionth app download wins $10,000
Apple has announced a contest wherein they will offer a $10,000 gift card to the person who downloads the 50 billionth app from the App Store and $500 for the 50 people to download apps after the 50 billionth. Apple has run similar contests to promote and celebrate milestones, as they did in February 2012 at the 25 billion mark, much like grocery stores once did for the millionth visitor and so forth.
Apple says they have already passed the 49 billion app download mark, and it is foreseeable that app downloads will accelerate closer to the 50 billion mark.
The winning gift cards may be redeemed in the App Store, and with the average song costing $0.99 and the average app download costing $1.54, the winner will pretty much be set for life. It is interesting, however, that the winner cannot redeem their massive winnings on any software, hardware, devices, or accessories available in the Apple stores.

As we approach 50 billion app downloads, we’ll be awarding a $10,000 App Store Gift Card to the lucky customer who downloads the 50 billionth app, and a $500 App Store Gift Card to each of the next 50 people to download an app,” the company announced.
Children under the age of 13 are not eligible and each person is limited to 25 entries per day. Interestingly, no download is required to win the 50 billionth app download contest and anyone can enter on the contest website.
