Automatic: insanely smart driving assistant, no monthly fees

Automatic is a smart driving assistant

If you have ever wished your car had all the cool, new features of a brand new, top-of-the-line model, your wish has been granted. Automatic gives you all the features of a smart driving assistant, with no subscription fees. All you need is the Automatic Link (which functions as a fancy USB type storage device) that plugs directly in to your car’s data port.

Then, your smartphone will automatically connect whenever your drive, wirelessly. There is no need to pick up your phone and look. The Link communicated with your car’s onboard computer and uses your smartphone’s GPS and data plan to upgrade your car’s capabilities. The Automatic Link works with just about any gasoline engine car made in the USA since 1996 (not sure, check this list). The technology also works with both Android and iPhone.

Even helpful during an accident

Wondering about that data port? It is the same one a mechanic uses when you take your car in for service. It is easily accessible, near the steering wheel, and can seriously be done by anyone. So what can Automatic do for you? It gives you a whole host of features comparable to anything you have envied in a brand new car.

First, Automatic gives you feedback. It learns about your driving style and gives you audio cues when you do something that wastes gas, such as: rough braking, speeding, or rapid acceleration. And if you experience any of these gas wasters, you can check the Automatic app to get an overview of your weekly driving habits, so you can adjust your driving accordingly.

In case of a crash, Automatic can help. It can detect crashes with its accelerometer and then alert an Automatic Agent. This agent will contact the authorities, give them your GPS location, and also contact your family members to let them know help is on the way. This is the best feature in my opinion. Many times we travel alone for business and there is no one else in the car to call 911 if needed. Automatic makes that call for you.

Even tells you why the “check engine” light is on

Since Automatic is plugged in to your car’s data port, it makes sense that it can help keep your engine running well, right? Right. Automatic connects your cat’s computer to your phone and helps you know what is going on inside the car. If your “check engine” light comes on, you will get a notification on your phone with more information about the source of the problem. It is kind of like having a mechanic in your pocket to do the troubleshooting for you before you have to take it in for repair. Should you need a mechanic to fix something, Automatic finds one near you to take care of it.

Finally, if you ever forget where you park, Automatic can remind you. Since your phone is connected to the Link, it always knows where you are parked. No more aimlessly wandering around the parking lot; you will be able to get right back to your car.

With all the features Automatic provides, it offers those of us with low-tech cars, high-tech options at an affordable price. Automatic is just under $100 with no subscription fees necessary.
