Can your website pass the “drunk user” test?

Go, getchyo drink on

Drinking on the job is something that many of us wish for during our mundane daily routines. How great would it be to combine Miller Time with work time?

Now imagine getting paid $250 every time you embark to intoxication-station. Sounds crazy, right? Well it’s not so crazy for Richard Littauer at theuserisdrunk.com.

This innovator states that every website should be so user-friendly that a drunk person could use it. Being that it is difficult for website developers to test out their creation while intoxicated, there is now someone who can do that for them.

How did this all get started??

Littauer’s premise for his business is that he will get very drunk and peruse a website. He will then send the developer a document that notates where he felt the website could use some work. Also included is a screencast of Littauer reviewing the website, and how could that not be entertaining?

If you take Littauer’s liver out of the equation, this is a brilliant idea. While your website may not be a go-to for drunk people specifically, all websites should be as simple to use as possible in order to gain use. Most Internet users do not fall under the category of “tech-savvy”, so it is always best to produce user-friendly websites. It should go without saying that producing a difficult-to-use-website will result in lower user traffic.

Littauer is a UX professional and full stack developer with years of experience. He explains on his websites that a mantra for UX is that you have to design the website as if the user will be drunk while using it.

Business is booming

According to his site, he has (drunkenly) evaluated eight websites so far. Littauer explains in his site’s FAQ that he limits his work to twice a week in an effort to combat a dependency of alcohol while working. While this is an interesting endeavor, thankfully it is not Littauer’s full-time job.

If you are concerned about how easily your website is able to navigate, Littauer is the man to go to. This is a helpful and unique route to take if you want to ensure the best possible website. For $250, Littauer will get drunk and help you achieve a great final product, negating the idea that “you can’t do two great things at once”.

Update: over the weekend, Littauer doubled the price of his services… business must be good!
