Is it a tablet? Is it a phone?
In February, we asked, “Do you remember the 5? Dell Streak that rocked the world last year? Adoption was mixed and immediate fans and haters were born. Running on the Android operating system, critics called the device confused (is it a smartphone? is it a tablet? it doesn’t know!) while fans praised the portability of the niche product.”
End of the line
Regardless of fans or haters, the Dell Streak 5 has been killed, and with it, many peoples’ hopes for the the tablet slash smartphone concept. Citing a delayed launch among other challenges, Engadget.com said, “perhaps this moment has been coming for a while.”
It had been rumored that the Dell Streak 5 would get a software makeover while it was being taken off the market, but Dell has changed strategy.
PC World notes Dell will be focusing on the 7″ and 10″ tablets as the competition from the iPad has impacted their strategy. “CEO Michael Dell is bullish on Android tablets, and predicts Android tablets will one day overtake the iPad, just like what happened in the smartphone arena,” PC World reports.
The Dell Streak 7 launched earlier this year and will remain on the market as Dell shifts focus to Android tablets.
