Dropbox gets a little more magical with Office integration

Dropbox + Office = magic

Cloud storage is perhaps the best thing since sliced bread. Dropbox has saved me from the panic of a hard drive crash more than once and I’m betting most people have experienced a similar situation.

Backing up your files used to be a tedious process, whereby you spent an hour in front of the computer hoping that you got everything transferred to a flash drive before the computer crashed again. Cloud storage has eliminated much of this panic.

The company announced this integration, stating they were getting even better. Thanks to this integration, you can now work on your Office files, right from Dropbox. Microsoft has released a new integration with Office Online, so you can edit any Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, or Excel file, in your Dropbox account directly from your web browser.

Why is this so fantastic?

You do not necessarily need the desktop versions of Microsoft Office, or even your own computer to update any Office files stored in your Dropbox. All you need to do is click the ‘Open’ button when you’re previewing a Dropbox file on the web, and you can edit the file right from your browser via Office Online. Any changes will automatically be saved back to your Dropbox.

This also works in reverse, you will be able to access your Dropbox directly from Office Online, so you can open any of your Dropbox files, and save new files, to Dropbox, without leaving Office Online. This should definitely help boost productivity.

Just the latest in the brands’ partnership

This integration is the latest in their partnership with Microsoft; joining the other Microsoft integrations already released for iOS and Android, as well as the Dropbox apps for Windows Phones and tablets. With this new integration, Dropbox aims to make it even faster and easier to work with your files from just your browser, saving you time and boosting productivity.

Dropbox for Business customers with an Office 365 license, Dropbox Basic, and Pro users can start using this integration today. This is a great way to edit and save Office files on-the-go. Have you tried it yet?
