Can 1,000,000 REALTORS Save the Dream?

Find just one family in your local market facing foreclosure and help them reach out to their lender and hopefully negotiate a resolution. This was the rallying call by Alex Perriello, CEO of Realogy at the Rismedia PowerBroker Dinner in Orlando during the NAR Meetings. I was moved by his call to arms of not just his 300,000 agents in the Realogy system, but every REALTOR out there all one million. He noted, that we have both an opportunity and an obligation to help our neighbors and our local communities by trying to prevent as many foreclosures from occurring as possible.”

And then I met Cathy McDaniels. Cathy is a real estate educator in the Georgia Area.  As a result of the mortgage debacle over the last few years, Cathy has written a book called “A Road Map to Saving your Home,” a comprehensive guide for foreclosure intervention and prevention.  It is a great tool for all real estate and mortgage professionals as well as the local homeowner for foreclosure prevention. Cathy was homeless at one time and has a wonderful story to tell. This is her way of giving back.

She gave me one, I read it, it is wonderful. If you are looking for a great resource to educate yourself . . . first, you need to get one. She covers:

  • Homeownership
  • Prior to Foreclosure
  • Hardships that warrant a workout plan
  • Help is available
  • When you cannot afford to stay in the home
  • Preparing to talk with the mortgage servicer
  • Saving your home
  • Working with a real estate professional
  • Loss Mitigation Foreclosure Intervention
  • Organizations helping struggling homeowners
  • Where to seek additional help
  • Future foreclosure prevention
  • Beware of scams
  • Know your credit rating and credit score
  • Initiative to sustain homeownership though communication solutions

Contact Cathy at American Real Estate University, where she is  HUD Certified Counselor, and an industry expert on matters related to HUD.

Finding them is not the problem; have you tried telling them you actually may be able to help them? Good luck Charlie to you…

Jim, we have not only tried but succeeded, as have many. I’m not sure I understand your comment…

Amy, this is the call to arms of our times, but we’re going to need help. Many in the main stream media are going to have to help, as will many in the private sector- we need incentives, cooperation, and solid solutions from each and every lender in the country.

I’m really not looking forward to the mountains of red tape we’ll be dealing with in the HUD arena like what we saw in the 80s where I was a buyer, not an agent. The process to close was 6 months and not a day sooner.

Thank you for mentioning “A Road Map To Saving Your Home” a great trusted resource of FHA, Fa, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac workout options, 90 loss mitigation contacts, scams to watch out for, filing complaints, plus initiatives to sustain homeownership through community solutions.

Both HDU/FHA & Fannie Mae will not wait to help a homeowner struggling to make their mortgage payments even if they are current today. Due to a hardship that will result in a delinquency within 90 days, HUD/FHA will help. You do not have to wait be behind before calling your mortgage servicer for help today! Homeowners need to know this update!

Real estate and mortgage professionals are in the “people helps people” business and based on 3.5 million homeowners past due, we need to reach out to our community today with great news and trusted resources that are mentioned in the book to help and guide homeownership preservation. Homeownership affects our local and national economy. And, in helping a family in time of need today, will help build your business for tomorrow from referrals. I challenge everyone that reads this response to roll up your sleeves and conduct a foreclosure prevention event in your community/neighborhood.

What a terrific resource! I hope it is inexpensive enough to provide clients with a copy. I have helped several familes this year avoid foreclosure and I have to tell you, it is gratifying work.

What I find disheartening is not being able to reach enough of them
