New email feature
Twitter has announced that in addition to emails users can already set up to be notified of direct messages or new followers, users will now be able to opt in to being notified over email of favorited tweets or of retweets.
This is a great feature for newer users or more focused users whereas those with thousands of followers may get bogged down in the number of emails and opt out of using the notification option.
**To receive email notifications, go to your settings and select “notifications” and under “activity” you can select the checkboxes you wish to be emailed about.
Our two cents
Although with Twitter’s $360 million in funding they have purchased TweetDeck, not much else has been done. The fail whale still exists, direct messages sometimes fail to appear and this is one of the few innovations to hit Twitter in the last year.
Innovation? It is difficult to call this an innovation, really as it seems to me the equivalent of building a 3D TV and selling it on the market and four years later after creation adding a volume button. It’s a pretty basic feature that should have been there all along, so it’s hard to applaud this move as innovative given that with the amount of money thrown at Twitter, it could buy the entire state of Idaho.
Regardless, the feature is live and you may receive emails when someone favorites your tweet or retweets you.
