Emberlight controls existing fixtures with your phone

Long live technology

I live in an older home and I have always wanted lights that dim in the living room, but the cost of an electrician, plus the somewhat unreliable old wiring in the house, made this not an option (or an expensive one).

Emberlight is a pretty neat solution. It is a very simple, plug-and-play adapter that adds customizable options to almost any type of light. You can use it with your existing light fixtures (wall or ceiling) and light bulbs (old school incandescents, leds, compact fluorescents, or halogens) and after the simple three minute installation; you can control and program that light bulb with your smartphone from anywhere.

The Emberlight base connects to your wifi and allows you to control every fixture with an installed device, remotely.

Emberlight gives you the convenience of dimmable, customized lighting without the need for an electrician. All you need is the ability to screw in a light bulb. I like it for mood lighting, but it is also great if you forget to turn off a light at home or work.

Use it at your office as well

If Emberlight is installed at work, you can turn off every light with a device from your phone; eliminating the need to go back to the office because someone left all the lights on (or hell, because someone can’t figure out how to make a friggin’ switch turn them on).

You can also provide other employees or guests in your home with temporary access to the app, so they can control the lights as well. Emberlight is “smart,” also; it can detect your presence and learn your preferred settings, so you do not have to enter them each time.

For example, Emberlight in a conference room, depending on your settings, could learn to dim the lights when it detects people seated. It can also remember your preferred settings for a movie night at home.

It also has the potential to be an energy-saving device because you can turn off everything remotely, allowing you to control energy consumption. Emberlight is currently taking pre-orders for their device. It will be interesting to see the entire scope of options you can set with the app.
