Evernote Clearly boost productivity, now reads articles out loud

Evernote’s Clearly function

Evernote is an extremely popular productivity app that has been around since 2007, and over the years, they have added numerous innovations, like Evernote Clearly which was launched early this year, designed to make reading web content easier. Evernote says Clearly makes blog posts, articles and webpages clean and easy to read, you can save any of these to Evernote to read them anywhere.

Evernote Clearly allows users to save important articles for reading later, offering a distraction free reading experience. In addition, Clearly has been updated with text to speech for Premium Evernote users, which runs $45 for a year, or $5 per month.

The new text to speech functionality is similar to creating your own podcast, the company says, as users simply open an article with Evernot Clearly, the Chrome extension converts the article to a minimalist, clean layout, and the “text to speech” icon can be pressed, and the article will be read aloud to the user.

Evernote adds that there are shorcut keys so the program will begin reading to you while you multitask elsewhere, and exactly like when you read natively, you can pause, go back, or skip ahead with the voice tool, so you’re not stuck listening to something irrelevant that you would otherwise forward through, plus you won’t miss anything if you got distracted.

The text to speech function is currently available in Google Chrome, and will be made available to other browsers in short order.

Evernote Clearly recognizes more than ten languages, and like Evernote, you can save items to read later, and users have the customization options they are used to in the form of pre-set themes.

Evernote Clearly is compatible with iPhones, iPads, iPod Touches, Windows Phone, Windows 8, Android, BlackBerry, WebOS, Mac OS X, and the Windows Desktop.
