Have you been to a job fair lately?
Were you underwhelmed by what was nothing short of rows of tables in a high school gym manned by underlings in cheap ties that begrudged the fact that they had to work overtime and act like they care about their brand?
You’re not alone.
The state of affairs in the hiring events world is pretty sad. And boring. And lame. So we decided to do something about it.
A few years ago, Benn Rosales and I saw a great need in our city, so we started the private Austin Digital Jobs (ADJ) group on Facebook to help talent find legitimate jobs in our hometown, and avoid having to wade through crappy job listings – many brands now list exclusively in the group before they ever post them anywhere else. Bingo!
We’ve taken that spirit of cutting through the B.S. and created an analog event, the ADJ Recruiting Mixer, and put it in a bar. In the last year, it has become a powerhouse, an authority, and a recognized brand in Austin and surrounding cities. It’s not a job fair, and it’s not like a mixer you’ve been to before. It dominates its own niche.
What to expect at the ADJ Mixer by BizBashh
When you walk into the event, you’re welcomed by a friendly face that will help you sign in, put on the appropriate name tag (one for “I’m hiring” one for “Hire me”), and hand you a free drink ticket if you get there early enough.
You’ll wander around the venue and meet companies that have sent their actual decision makers with actual kick ass jobs because recruiters know the talent in the room is smokin’ hot.
The first event was in May, and it was a hit. A big huge giant hit. So big of a hit that the city has demanded we do it quarterly, and we had to move to a bigger venue to fit. In two weeks, we’re going to do it all over again so you don’t have to suffer through another crappy job fair in a seedy motel.
If you’re looking for a coding job at a hot video game company, or you’re hoping to land a gig at a growing startup, or maybe you want to put your writing skills to work for a brand website, you’ll want to maybe take a shower and bring some biz cards, and join us at the Rattle Inn on November 18th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Dress is biz casual, and everyone should bring biz cards (job seekers, do come with resumes in hand if you’d like).
One attendee stated, “This is probably the best job networking event I’ve been to. It was well organized, recruiters were easy to find in the crowd, the diversity of employers was great, and I must confess that chatting over a beer eased my nerves.”
