Fighting Poverty- Ginger Wilcox

Blog Action Day

Today marks the second annual Blog Action Day in which the goal is for all bloggers to be focusing for one day on a single cause, this year it’s fighting poverty in an effort to raise awareness and encourage a global discussion.

Ginger Wilcox

As the Chair of Provisional Education for the Junior League of San Francisco, Agent Genius’ own Ginger Wilcox is responsible for developing and implementing a one year training program for 180 women entering the Junior League. She felt is important that hands on training would benefit the new members over a lecture series, so she teamed the League up with the Homeless Prenatal Program in San Francisco. Seizing the motivating opportunity created by pregnancy and parenthood, the Homeless Prenatal Program.

Ginger noted that “HPP joins with families to help them recognize their strengths and trust in their capacity to transform their lives to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty. Since 1998, when the Homeless Prenatal Program implemented its housing program, 2,235 families including 3,993 children have been moved into stable housing.

In an effort to assist families as they begin their lives anew, this year’s project will involve procuring items needed to help approximately 100 mothers at HPP settle into a new home, as well as a new life.

My job it to work with girls to teach them how to develop goals and project plans to implement a large scale project, teach them how to procure donations, and how to implement their plan.

Ginger shared with me just a small portion of what she does in the volunteer world and she is a great role model for her children and for our community in that she has a long record of putting others before herself and never ignoring the needs of her community. Ginger, your AG family thanks you for all you do and today we recognize your innovative volunteer work to fight poverty.
