Find your missing iPhone, even when it is dead

Last Alert app

Modern mobile technology is fantastic. It keeps you connected to your loved ones, clients, and acquaintances. It allows you to search the internet easily, and from pretty much anywhere. These days, it seems that smartphones can do just about anything. But there is one thing they can’t do—direct you to where it is when the battery has died. We’ve all experienced this—you lose or misplace your phone and you can’t call it because the battery is dead. At that point, finding your iPhone is based on luck. But it doesn’t have to be.

Last Alert is an app that will help you find your dead iPhone, but it has yet to be created and is currently looking for quite a few pledges on Kickstarter.com. Kickstarter.com is “the world’s largest funding platform for creative projects,” wherein projects are posted to the site and anyone with a credit card can pledge money to fund the projects, but the twist is that a project must reach its funding goal before time runs out or no money changes hands because “creators aren’t expected to develop their project without necessary funds, and it allows anyone to test concepts without risk.” The site also allows project creators to keep 100 percent ownership over their work and offer products and incentives in return for pledges.

If Last Alert has adequate funding, it will have three exciting main features. The first one is you can choose to have audible notifications when your battery is close to dying. This will allow you to find your phone and plug it in before it dies, completely avoiding the problem of a lost, dead iPhone. You can customize at what percentage of battery life this app alerts you—whether that’s two or twenty percent. If you want more than one percentage-based alert, you can assign up to three, ensuring you are given enough time to find your phone before it dies.

Alert!

The second main feature that Last Alert will incorporate is an alert by email. And this is where it gets cool. Last Alert will email you the GPS coordinates of your phone. In the body of the email will be a link. All you do is click on it and it will show you where your phone is through Google maps. And just like that you can find your lost and dead iPhone.

While you may not have thought it could get cooler than the two above features, it does. The third potential feature will allow you to track your iPhone from a second device. Last Alert will need to be installed on the second device, of course, but you can actually use the built-in compass on the Last Alert app to go directly to your phone or iPod. When you get closer to your lost apple product, you’ll hear a “sonar-style ‘ping’ that increases as you get closer.” It doesn’t get any more awesome than that!

So, if you want to see this app come to life, you’ll need to head over to Kickstarter.com or it may never make it to fruition. While there are different categories for those who want to pledge a monetary amount, there are some great perks and benefits that come with a small donation—one of which includes free upgrades for life. Oh, and you’ll get any apps that are developed in the future for free. And those are some pretty great perks!
