One simple trick stops Facebook from hiding your messages

Facebook is hiding messages from you

Acting as a default spam filter, it was recently discovered that Facebook had a hidden inbox for messages that were from non-friends and Facebook pages. By clicking the word “Messages” on the Facebook homepage, you will see the word “Other” pop up below it. Click it to see what messages Facebook deemed unworthy of your inbox and unworthy of notifying you about.

We have received emails from across the nation (and Canada) from people claiming they missed out on various business opportunities, discovered they were invited to an event that they believed they had not been invited to, and learned that past friends were trying to reach out to them. Most people we talk to about this topic are quite upset.

Facebook never made it clear that there was a hidden inbox that was hiding messages from you, but there is a fix that is tedious and obnoxious, but helps to groom your Facebook messages to come to your inbox.

To get Facebook to stop hiding your messages

This is easy but not exactly efficient, and we recommend that you set a calendar reminder for yourself to check your “Other” inbox at least once per week to see if you miss new messages.

So just like you do in email spam, open your “Other” inbox (remember, go to your Facebook home page, click the word “Messages,” and the word “Other” will appear below “Messages.” Click “Other” to go to your other inbox).

You’ll likely see unread messages you never knew existed like so:

So the White House has tried to reach this inbox 17 times, and that is not good, so open the message that is not spam and that you would like to force to your regular inbox. When open, click “Actions” in the top right and select “Move to Messages” from the drop down menu.

This will supposedly send all messages from that user in the future to your regular inbox and notify you, the same way you rescue spam from your email spam box. Is it efficient? No. But at least now you know how to try to force Facebook to be more efficient.
