GlanceAt uses machine learning to reduce your email overload

GlanceAt assuages that panic of email overload

If you are overwhelmed by email, take a look at this new application for your smartphone. GlanceAt is a new mobile email assistant that analyzes the content of your email, filters it into Smart Cards, then provides efficient ways for you to respond quickly. You don’t have to leave the app to integrate with your calendar or contact list. The app is also designed to search your email for recent attachments when someone asks you for a file.

GlanceAt has stiff competition in the market. Boxer, Yesware, and Immediately are all established apps that you can download today and begin to use. Yesware includes some great tools for sales giving you even more functionality by showing you who reads your emails and clicks on the links. However, GlanceAt uses machine learning and language processing in its filtering process. According to the developer, Atif Siddiqi, GlanceAt changes its response for your boss versus a client.

Taking issue with GlanceAt from the start

However, GlanceAt is not available to use at this time, so I was unable to test it for myself. It’s still in beta, but they are taking reservations for access. When I signed up, I was placed in a queue for rollout. My place in line is 10,205. If I get three friends to join, I jump ahead in line. Pass.

Another issue that I have with GlanceAt is that I had to search for company data. Clicking on the “about” link took me back to the homepage. With a little digging, I was able to find a video from DEMO Fall 2014 where it was being promoted. Siddiqi discusses how he missed an important email and came up with the concept of GlanceAt. He is very active on LinkedIn and does have a good background in business and software development.

What to do while you wait

Once GlanceAt comes out, it may be very viable and work well if you get tons of emails. However, in the meantime, if you have someone who is trying to get urgent information to you, suggest they call or text so that it does not get lost in your inbox. Use filters built into your email to flag important emails from your boss or a client. You don’t have to wait for this product. Be efficient now with your emails so that you don’t miss out.
