Glipho is a bit of blogging with a giant dash of social

What is Glipho?

Glipho is a social blogging interface from which you can post and build content directly in Glipho, or import content from another blogging platform.Glipho is compatible with Blogger, WordPress, and Tumblr. You can easily import your posts in three quick clicks.

If you want to use Glipho as your main blogging platform, sign up is easy; you can log in with your Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, or Google IDs.

How does Glipho work?

Write your content from “my desk” where you can jot down notes and turn notes into a draft, and drafts become published “Gliphs.” You can easily drag and drop photos from Instagram, Picasa, and Flickr if you want to enhance your Gliphs. Then you can share your Gliph. You choose your social networks and when you publish, Glipho automatically shares it. People can then leave your feedback about your Gliph.

You can then offer your opinion on an existing Gliph, creating your own version of an existing Gliph to go right along side the original (call “version it”) and this will allegedly increase your exposure as a blogger. I say allegedly because the current Glipho audience is fairly small, but perhaps as news of Glipho spreads, so will their audience.

Pros and cons

Glipho is centered around community which can be helpful for people working on their personal or professional brand, but it is also a bit of a blogger popularity contest, for example, you can see yourself trending when you write a popular Gliph. It will tell you how many followers you have, who has read what, who has said what, and when they said it. It’s a bit like Pinterest in that way. When you pin something on Pinterest, you can see who has pinned it, how many likes it has gotten, and infer from this data how popular it is.

Similarly, you can follow trending writers or topics, or search through categories; such as travel, entertainment, sports, and technology. Glipho offers you a guide on how to get started here. It is somewhat reminiscent of ActiveRain.com but with their own twist and a slightly more modern interface, but it is a property you as a business owner do not own, so if you violate the terms of service, your works are subject to removal, just as when you blog on Blogger or WordPress.com which can be traumatic to a brand.

I find Glipho to be a bit chaotic. I am not a fan of the ways in which posts are arranged, as it feels a bit like sensory overload, but that is my own personal preference. You may find that you enjoy it and it’s free, so it may be worth checking out for your own use.
