Gmail on Android just got a trillion times better
Often times when you get started on a project, even the smallest disruption can tank productivity. This is especially true if those disruptions are completely irrelevant, or unnecessary. Turning off persistent distractions from email used to mean either blocking the sender, or using a third-party program to help you filter your distractions.
Gmail has introduced a new way to help prevent these distractions from happening. Now, you have the option to “never see messages from this person again.” You can block specific email addresses in Gmail already on the web and from Android devices within the week. The new feature is much easier than creating filters, as you can block someone in two quick clicks.
Great way to cut off spammers
While this is a great feature to stop the distraction, it’s also effective to block spammers, bullies, and people that just won’t take no for an answer. Of course, there are other ways to address these issues, but having the feature built-in is an easy option for dealing with it. Once you’ve enabled these settings for a particular email address, it will go to be spam folder. If at any time you change your mind, you can always remove an address from within the “Settings” menu.
If blocking those annoying messages wasn’t enough, from Android you’ll also be able to opt out of eligible mailing lists right from the Gmail app. This saves you the hassle of unsubscribing from each one individually, as you can choose “unsubscribe” right from the drop down box on each individual message.
While this isn’t a huge update, blocking and unsubscribing can certainly help you control and manage your inbox more effectively, especially on the go. The web version worked quite effectively for me, so I am anxious to see if the Android version works in the same manner. Have you tried out this new feature? If so, what did you think of it.
