Google Analytics Academy: free classes

Anyone who has thought about getting a website or who has set one up or had one designed knows that the main reason your site exists is to draw people in. But how do you know who is on your site, what they are doing, and what data even matters? Before you can even get to the lead generation portion of owning a site, you must first understand the basics of analytics so you know who is on your site (then, you can understand what they’re doing once there and what is or isn’t working).

While there are many highly qualified professionals that can assist you with your SEO or understanding your analytics, Google has set up what they call the Google Analytics Academy, a series of free courses that help teach anyone the ins and outs of the most popular analytics suite.

While some may argue the validity of Google’s data (we use more than one suite and compare results), learning from the academy can help you understand what analytics mean, no matter the tool.

The course may be free, but it’s not for the passerby, it is a three week course designed to help the DIY-er to really master their analytics and help grease the wheels of their site.

Currently, only one course is offered, but more are said to be on the way. In the Google Analytics Academy you will learn:

  • Unit 1 – Course overview
  • Unit 2 – Getting started with digital analytics
  • Unit 3 – Understanding and using Google Analytics data
  • Unit 4 – Collecting actionable data with Google Analytics
  • Unit 5 – Navigating Google Analytics reports
  • Unit 6 – Navigating Conversions reports
