Years of rumors
For years, Google has been working on creating machines that are web based, meaning that as soon as you open them, you’re connected to the internet and they call these devices Chromebooks because they are optimized for the Google Chrome browser which is currently used by over 160 million active users.
As the video above demonstrates, the goal is to get online immediately, appealing to the shift in use to web based technologies. Google claims that the Chromebook will finally be available for order on June 15th, available at Amazon.com and Best Buy.
Google’s inexpensive new IT offering
Google is also launching “Chromebooks for Business and Education” which offers a “cloud management console to remotely administer and manage users, devices, applications and policies” to save companies and schools time and money.
According to Google, “also included is enterprise-level support, device warranties and replacements as well as regular hardware refreshes. Monthly subscriptions will start at $28/user for businesses and $20/user for schools.”
Google’s solidification of the Chromebook puts one more nail in the coffin of those doubting the shift toward cloud computing.
