Glass users get the privilege of inviting future buyers to pony up

Google Glass users turned into salespeople for Google

So you are a Google Glass user, and you’re proud of your $1,500 device that you don with pride, and as Google nears the day that these devices are put up for sale, the higher ups at Google have hatched a brilliant plan – turn all of the tester geeks (more formally referred to as “Google Glass Explorers”) into salespeople. Why not? They’ve already vetted the project in public, tweeted about it, blogged about it, and Facebooked about it, all for the privilege of being first.

And now, Google has offering another privilege to the Google Glass testing community – they will be the exclusive holders of the invitations to buy a pair of trendy Google-enabled devices. Rather than just put the expensive technology on the shelves, Google has allowed the early adopter devotees to evangelize just a little bit more, so watch for people begging on social networks for anyone that has invites to allow them to shell out $1,500.

If you want Google Glass, ask their volunteer sales force

Each Glass user will have three invitations to grant, and they will be the first sales force built for the device. Typically this model is used for tech startups online, not tangible products, so the rollout will definitely be interesting to watch.

“We’re counting on you to get Glass to the people you think will make great Explorers,” the company said in a statement. “More Explorers means more feedback, and more feedback means better Glass.”

Additionally, current Glass users will be able to use one of their own invitations to upgrade their old device to an upgraded version which is compatible with prescription frames and the new shade feature. These users may also switch the color of their device, the company notes. The earliest Explorers that have become accustomed to the device will likely upgrade as the version they’ve used may be outdated and buggy.
