Selling yourself is simple…right?
Setting out to write your resume should be a simple task. I mean, the idea is to write out a one-page summary that is meant to sell yourself to potential employers. So, how difficult could it be to talk yourself up? Well, you’d be surprised.
Every time I sit down to brush up my resume, I find myself staring at the document for much longer than necessary. While I breeze through writing the education and experience sections, I am always stumped when I get down to skills.
It takes skills to write skills
The day I master writing my skills section on a resume will be the day I accomplish my biggest skill of all. I am constantly second guessing what is worth including – “Do I put ‘skilled in Microsoft Word?…Shouldn’t everybody be skilled in Microsoft Word?”

These skills are based upon global usage of LinkedIn. While not at all surprising, it seems as though the skills that are evolving and intensifying in importance are technologically based.
The days of “strong communication and typing skills” are not as impressive anymore.
