{"id":11833,"date":"2017-07-07T12:23:24","date_gmt":"2017-07-07T17:23:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/therealdaily.com\/?p=11833"},"modified":"2017-07-07T12:24:15","modified_gmt":"2017-07-07T17:24:15","slug":"aging-population","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theamericangenius.com\/housing\/big-data\/aging-population\/","title":{"rendered":"US, Japan partner on the challenge of housing an aging population"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Aging population<\/h2>\n<p>Despite vast cultural differences, there\u2019s one thing that the United States and Japan definitely have in common: an aging population.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><strong>Read also: <a href=\"https:\/\/therealdaily.com\/big-data\/cancer-risk-real-estate\/\">Are you selling real estate in a high-cancer-risk area?<\/a><\/strong><\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-91813\" src=\"https:\/\/theamericangenius.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/bar.jpg\" alt=\"bar\" width=\"100\" height=\"19\" \/><br \/>\nThe two countries have decided to collaborate in their efforts to ensure housing for seniors, with a particular focus on helping the elderly to \u201cage in place;\u201d or in other words, to live out their last days in their own homes.<\/p>\n<p>Through this collaboration, the U.S. and Japan will share invaluable research insights and innovations around senior housing.<\/p>\n<h2>It is done<\/h2>\n<p>Last Friday, representatives from the two countries met and signed an agreement at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development\u2019s (HUD\u2019s) headquarters. Representing the United States were HUD Secretary Ben Carson and the acting president of Ginnie Mae, Maren Kasper.<\/p>\n<p>In attendance on behalf of Japan were the parliamentary vice minister of Japan\u2019s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transportation, and Tourism, Hisayuki Fujii, as well as Masahiro Nakajima, president of Japan\u2019s Urban Renaissance Agency.<\/p>\n<p>Japan\u2019s Housing Finance Agency will also participate in the collaboration.<\/p>\n<h2>Two heads are better than one<\/h2>\n<p>Under the agreement, the two nations will share research on how to finance aging in place, health and accessibility in senior housing, possible partnerships between public and private institutions, and senior-(and budget)friendly policies.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In Japan, many services for seniors are provided by the government, whereas the United States relies more heavily on private businesses and nonprofits.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Nonetheless, both countries share the same goal of figuring out how more seniors can live healthy lives at home.<\/p>\n<p>The United States and Japan have already begun sharing research insights with one another.
