{"id":12722,"date":"2017-12-29T09:34:02","date_gmt":"2017-12-29T15:34:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/therealdaily.com\/?p=12722"},"modified":"2017-12-29T09:34:02","modified_gmt":"2017-12-29T15:34:02","slug":"no-forced-net-neutrality-imposition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theamericangenius.com\/housing\/real-estate-tech\/no-forced-net-neutrality-imposition\/","title":{"rendered":"Investigation finds no forced net neutrality imposition on FCC in 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>No, Barack Obama did not order the FCC to impose net neutrality rules in 2015, contrary to what Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai claims. <\/p>\n<p>Yes, Obama did call on the FCC to reclassify broadband providers as \u201cTitle II\u201d common carriers in 2014. However, an investigation conducted by the FCC\u2019s independent Inspector General\u2019s office found \u201cno evidence\u201d that the White House improperly used power to persuade then-Chairman Tom Wheeler to lead the net neutrality vote, according to a new report. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We found no evidence of secret deals, promises or threats from anyone outside the Commission, nor any evidence of any other improper use of power to influence the FCC decision-making process,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/motherboard.vice.com\/en_us\/article\/vbympa\/net-neutrality-fcc-inspector-general-report\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">the IG&#8217;s August 2016 report<\/a> said regarding Obama&#8217;s role in classifying broadband providers as common carriers and imposing net neutrality rules.<\/p>\n<p>Pai continues to insist that the net neutrality regulations he recently repealed were pushed out on \u201cexpress orders from the previous White House,\u201d per <a href=\"http:\/\/transition.fcc.gov\/Daily_Releases\/Daily_Business\/2017\/db1214\/DOC-348261A2.pdf\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">his statement<\/a> following the repeal. <\/p>\n<p>While the report doesn\u2019t disprove Pai\u2019s claim that Obama pushed the FCC to adopts it\u2019s net neutrality rules, the IG\u2019s report says there was nothing improper about Obama\u2019s 2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/information-technology\/2014\/11\/obama-urges-fcc-to-regulate-broadband-as-a-utility\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">public statement<\/a>. In fact, it supports Wheeler\u2019s 2015 contention that, \u201cThere were no secret instructions from the White House.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Pai\u2019s claim is based on Obama\u2019s public statement, even though Obama did urge the FCC to take action.
