Millions of viewers have watched Chip and Jo flip homes into their clients\u2019 homes of their dreams on the HGTV hit, <em>Fixer Upper<\/em>, and the ending scene of each episode showcased each family enjoying their new home among beloved family and friends.<\/p>\n<p>However, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realtor.com\/news\/trends\/fixer-upper-is-back-on-airbnb-matsumoto-farm\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Realtor.com<\/a>, the majority of the homes meant to be enjoyed by families are now short-term rentals featured on websites such as Airbnb, Homeaway, and VRBO. <\/p>\n<p>The most recent listing? A house purchased and renovated for the show\u2019s Executive Producer, Michael Matsumoto, is listing his home for a bargain price &#8212; compared to other Fixer Upper listings &#8212; at only $300 a night. <\/p>\n<p>The listing reads: \u201cstay at the Producer of FIXER UPPERS home built for the finale of season 4. A 20 minute drive to Waco it\u2019s the perfect retreat. This home is family friendly and ideal for entertaining family and friends. It has a beautiful open concept kitchen with plenty of cooking essentials, 2 full baths with a rain shower in the master, original bunk beds seen on TV, huge yard great for kids complete with play structure, basketball court and a small gym.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Sounds pretty legit, right?<\/p>\n<p>Even though the four-bedroom, 2-bath Crawford ranch is beautiful and spacious, the home was originally purchased for $12,500, so charging $300 a night is quite the investment return.<\/p>\n<p>Another home known as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realtor.com\/realestateandhomes-detail\/123-Spring-Creek-St_Waco_TX_76705_M81575-47006#photo0\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Bardonminium<\/a> recently sold for 1.2 million to a real estate investor, who now lists the home for up to $1500 a night. According to a Magnolia spokesperson, Chip and Joanna prefer their clients to live in the homes, rather than simply turning them into cash cows. <\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/theamericangenius.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/fixer-upper.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1438\" height=\"960\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-134758\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Masmuto Farm House: Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airbnb.com\/rooms\/29857980?location=Crawford,%20TX,%20United%20States&#038;adults=0&#038;children=0&#038;infants=0&#038;guests=0&#038;s=QAuwczBB&#038;irgwc=1&#038;irclid=3kUwpnzn30p7RyBSiRyopwu8UkgUzm11o0pU1E0&#038;ircid=4560&#038;c=Time%20Inc._290446&#038;sharedid=&#038;af=126295512&#038;irgwc=1&#038;irclid=Us-UdYR9o2OMUk1RQ-Xr90UDUkgUB6W2Uz%3AVyk0&#038;ircid=4560&#038;c=Viglink%20Primary_392845&#038;sharedid=4204286&#038;af=126295512\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Airbnb<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>In Waco, where the average price per square foot is only $99, short-term rentals for Fixer Upper homes are without a doubt a lucrative opportunity.  <\/p>\n<p>But watching a house renovation to see it become an Airbnb is a lot less appealing than watching it become a family\u2019s dream home. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/theamericangenius.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/fixer-upper-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-134759\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A 1,050 sq. foot shotgun house costing $28,000 was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realtor.com\/news\/trends\/fixer-upper-shotgun-house-for-sale-for-sky-high-price\/\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">recently listed for $950,000<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Which brings us to the question: why wasn\u2019t an \u201cAirbnb clause\u201d written into the contracts of the buyers yet?
