Time is a finite resource. We can’t make more of it, each of us only has so much of it, and to waste someone else’s is to let that person know that you don’t believe they or their time is as important as you and yours. Gross.

To be consistently late to meetings or with deadlines shows that you have no respect for the people with whom you work. Don’t do that. Be early. What’s the worst that can happen? You show up prepared, focused and ready? People hate that.

2. Give up the ghosting. To ghost someone is to show that person that regardless of your age, you operate as a poorly behaved child who somehow missed out on important life skills like responsibility, ownership and common decency.

Reminder: Those are skills that people look for when looking to hire you as their agent. Also, ghosting is rude and word gets around when you’re rude.

3. Send Thank You notes. Did everyone’s mom just forget to cover manners? Is it just “Say Please” now?

Sending a thank you note after meeting a potential client, or a team member who helped you during a busy time – it shows you care and value that person’s time or expertise, however, the practice is often shirked.

But hey, here’s the kicker: They don’t even need to be handwritten. YOU CAN SEND AN EMAIL! FROM YOUR PHONE! Short and straightforward works best. Like this:

“Dear [Name],

Thank you for taking the time to meet with me. I enjoyed our discussion about [Specific Opportunity Discussed] and I’m excited by the opportunity to [Whatever]. I’m looking forward to connecting again soon.

Thanks again,

[Your Name]

Quick, copy and paste that and put it in a Google Doc where you can use it this year!

4. Quit procrastinating. Procrastination is not worth it. You already know this and you do it anyway so stop doing it and start feeling emotionally stable and increasingly energized immediately. Whether it be putting off deadlines, hard discussions, or even a new career opportunity, just do it.

In this case, you’re the only one holding yourself back. And if you’re about to say, “But it’s easier said than done,” then I say to you, “Grow up.”

5. Ingest nutritious media. Guess what? You don’t need to read Twitter, take Facebook quizzes, or restlessly scroll through Instagram. Believe it or not, we CAN control what we put into our brains and we should start being a whole helluva lot more mindful about it.

We are what we consume. Lower the garbage content and increase your overall well-being and mindfulness. It wouldn’t hurt to read a book.

6. Use your vacation time. Taking vacation helps you avoid burnout and recharges your batteries. New ideas, increased momentum and a positive outlook are all benefits of taking a little time off. It won’t kill you, and if you’re afraid to take the time, it might be time to look for a new position somewhere else or consider your practices that restrict your ability to holiday. Also, having relationships with your kids is cool and rewarding.

7. Un-freaking-plug, y’all. You don’t always have to be connected. You just don’t. Put down your phone, shutdown your computer, wipe the screen time from your eyes. Go for walk. Read a book. Lie quietly on your couch and take a nap. Do it. It feels amazing.

If you try even half of these, this year will be far better than your last!

(EDITORIAL) Drink some water and sit up straight friends, it’s time to talk about your bad habits to nix this year!

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false
_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[254
433,1234
post-13872","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-editorials","tag-productivity","tag-real-estate-news
["GET
