{"id":14426,"date":"2019-08-13T11:25:57","date_gmt":"2019-08-13T16:25:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theamericangenius.com\/housing\/?p=14426"},"modified":"2019-08-14T22:24:50","modified_gmt":"2019-08-15T03:24:50","slug":"nar-partners-with-food-recovery-network-to-be-the-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theamericangenius.com\/housing\/board-associations\/nar-partners-with-food-recovery-network-to-be-the-change\/","title":{"rendered":"NAR partners with Food Recovery Network to BE the change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mahatma Gandhi once said, \u201cBe the change that you wish to see in the world.\u201d But today, most people are clicktavists (clicking &#8220;Like&#8221; on something and feeling like an impact has been made), and the National Association of Realtors (NAR) continues to go out of their way to avoid meaningless chatter, instead pushing for real change. <\/p>\n<p>NAR has partnered with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foodrecoverynetwork.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Food Recovery Network<\/a> (FRN), a national nonprofit that unites students at colleges and universities to fight food waste and hunger by recovering surplus perishable food. The partnership will donate excess meals from their conferences and meetings to local food banks, and they&#8217;re asking the 1,200 local and state Realtor associations to &#8220;take the pledge&#8221; to &#8220;multiply the effort.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Announced at the annual Leadership Summit in Chicago, NAR CEO, Bob Goldberg said, It is exciting to see State and Local Association Executives and incoming Presidents step up to fight hunger in their areas. Taking the pledge to participate is one example of their commitment to serve the less fortunate. Showing compassion for people in the communities we serve is how we &#8216;Own Who We R,'&#8221; referencing the &#8220;That&#8217;s Who We Are&#8221; campaign. <\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/theamericangenius.com\/housing\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/08\/thats-who-we-r.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1640\" height=\"630\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14430\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theamericangenius.com\/housing\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/08\/thats-who-we-r.png 1640w, https:\/\/theamericangenius.com\/housing\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/08\/thats-who-we-r-300x115.png 300w, https:\/\/theamericangenius.com\/housing\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/08\/thats-who-we-r-768x295.png 768w, https:\/\/theamericangenius.com\/housing\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/08\/thats-who-we-r-1024x393.png 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1640px) 100vw, 1640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiving back to the community is the right thing to do, and I am proud that NAR members have a long history of helping their neighbors,\u201d Goldberg said in a statement. \u201cWe hope this effort will inspire other associations, organizations, businesses and individuals to fight hunger in their local communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>FRN has already recovered 3.9 million pounds of food, donated 3.2 million meals and prevented 7.4 million pounds of CO2 emissions since 2011.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership started earlier this year, when FRN staff designed and executed a food recovery plan for NAR\u2019s Legislative Meetings &#038; Trade Expo in Washington, D.C. On the final day of the event, two lunch events were unexpectedly canceled. However, thanks to the food recovery plan, 85 meals were donated to Charlie\u2019s Place, a hunger-fighting nonprofit in D.C.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe look forward to partnering with NAR and the entire Realtor\u00ae family to make food donation a regular part of their events and meetings. We make it fast, easy and simple for organizations to donate surplus food to people who need it the most,\u201d said Regina Anderson, FRN Executive Director. \u201cOur two organizations share the goal of making food recovery \u2013 not food waste \u2013 the standard at real estate industry events.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>NAR hotel and convention partners will collaborate on food recovery, and FRN will verify the effort at NAR\u2019s largest annual event for real estate professionals, the 2019 REALTORS\u00ae Conference &#038; Expo, which be held this year from November 8\u201311, 2019, in San Francisco. An estimated 20,000 people will attend the conference.<\/p>\n<p>We look forward to reporting back with all of the associations that join the movement!<\/p>\n<p><strong>In the era of lazy clicktavism, NAR is leading by example.
