Sales in all regions contracted, led by the West where the biggest dip of 15.9% occurred, compared to April, and 30.9% compared to the June prior. <br><br>On the heels of yesterday&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/theamericangenius.com\/housing\/big-data\/home-prices-ease-in-may\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Case-Shiller data revealing a slow down in home price surges<\/a>, NAR is reporting that<strong> buying a home in June was nearly 80% more expensive than in June 2019<\/strong>. <br><br>Pair that with rising mortgage rates, buyers are simply fatigued, if not boxed out altogether. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cContract signings to buy a home will keep tumbling down as long as mortgage rates keep climbing, as has happened this year to date,\u201d said NAR Chief Economist, Dr. Lawrence Yun.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"682\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/theamericangenius.com\/housing\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/NAR-JUN2022-PHS-682x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19177\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theamericangenius.com\/housing\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/NAR-JUN2022-PHS-682x1024.png 682w, https:\/\/theamericangenius.com\/housing\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/NAR-JUN2022-PHS-200x300.png 200w, https:\/\/theamericangenius.com\/housing\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/NAR-JUN2022-PHS-768x1153.png 768w, https:\/\/theamericangenius.com\/housing\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/NAR-JUN2022-PHS-600x901.png 600w, https:\/\/theamericangenius.com\/housing\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/07\/NAR-JUN2022-PHS.png 1000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 682px) 100vw, 682px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>With the Federal Reserve expected to announce another rate hike this afternoon in another attempt to stop the proverbial bleeding of the impending recession, analysts appear to be in lockstep with Dr. Yun on this topic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere are indications that mortgage rates may be topping or very close to a cyclical high in July.
