{"id":20279,"date":"2022-12-22T17:40:53","date_gmt":"2022-12-22T23:40:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theamericangenius.com\/housing\/?p=20279"},"modified":"2022-12-22T17:40:56","modified_gmt":"2022-12-22T23:40:56","slug":"ipos-at-32-year-low","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theamericangenius.com\/housing\/big-data\/ipos-at-32-year-low\/","title":{"rendered":"IPOs in America are at a 32-year low"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In light of the volatile markets and post-COVID uncertainty, the end of 2022 marks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2022\/12\/15\/us-ipo-32-year-low\">a year containing the lowest number of IPOs since 1990<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Axios notes that, for context, 1990 was when \u201cGermany was reunified, Tim Berners-Lee published his proposal for a \u2018World Wide Web\u2019 and Kevin McCallister first defeated the Wet Bandits.\u201d One or two things have changed in the ensuing 32 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nevertheless, a mere 74 companies raised \u201cjust $8 billion\u201d through IPOs in 2022, making 2022 95% less profitable than the prior year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Axios\u2019 Business Editor, Dan Primack, a cocktail consisting of \u201cvolatility mixed with cowardice\u201d is to blame for the 32-year low, adding that \u201cplenty of non-IPO opportunities\u201d existed for investors who were savvy enough to snap up the pertinent options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Primack also posits that the immediate future looks bleak. \u201cMaybe you shouldn\u2019t [look ahead]. There\u2019s just nothing around the corner\u2026IPO experts say the real action is more likely in the back half of 2023.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>On the whole, a variety of issues that weren\u2019t present in 2021 influenced the tenuous nature of this year\u2019s market; these issues range from inflation to increasingly tense relations with China.
