As we mentioned<\/a> back in November, Apple has been hard at work on a new mixed-reality headset, and we\u2019re finally learning a bit more about it. It seems as though the new device will create Apple\u2019s equivalent to the Metaverse, and we\u2019re eager to learn more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So far, we\u2019ve learned<\/a> that Apple\u2019s mixed-reality headset will have a physical dial, similar to the one found on the Apple Watch, to switch between a live view of the real-world and virtual reality. While the dial is not expected to output haptic feedback, it will allow the wearer to seamlessly switch between a virtual display and real life, or possibly even hover in between. This feature makes a lot of sense for those who need to be present in a pinch. Not only that, but the outside display will communicate the wearer\u2019s facial expressions to others. This feature will surely reduce the feeling of isolation, as everyone in the room can share in body language expression even when immersed in a virtual reality environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The headset is sure to trigger some flashbacks for former \u201cbeeper\u201d wearers, as it features a waist-mounted battery pack and magnetic power cable. The headset itself is said to be constructed of aluminum, glass, and carbon fiber, which should provide a sturdy, sleek design without adding uncomfortable weight to the wearer\u2019s head. While it was once rumored that the head strap would be interchangeable, similar to Apple Watch bands, this is no longer the case, as Apple utilizes the band to supply power to the display. Speaking of the display, the interior displays will feature micro OLED technology with 4k resolution per eye, providing a stunning viewing experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple\u2019s no stranger to thinking of creative ways to offer accessible products, and the new headset will follow that path. The headset will feature a 120-degree field of view, which could assist those who have vision impairments. Users will also have the ability to attach magnetic lenses via prescription, possibly making Apple the first to introduce this technology to the headset market. Small internal motors will adjust the lenses to align with the wearer\u2019s interpupillary distance, creating a custom experience for each individual and providing the largest field of view possible. If that wasn\u2019t enough, Apple\u2019s also planning to create a seamless experience when AirPods are paired with the headset. For those who need assistance hearing clearly or even those who seek a private experience, this is a big win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
