Have you ever wished that you could have your own personal Google for your digital content? If so, good news: a newly released app just might be able to fulfill your dreams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fabric is, as they call it, \u201ca collaborative internet drive and AI search engine for your digital world<\/a>\u201d\u2014perfect for people who want to better organize their digital files<\/strong> but don\u2019t want to learn yet another<\/em> system for keeping track. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Available as a Chrome extension or a desktop app (Mac and Windows), using Fabric<\/a> lets you easily save content\u2014texts, images, PDFS, links, and more\u2014to your personal internet drive. No need to switch apps: You can save to Fabric directly from the app that you\u2019re already in, so you don\u2019t need to disrupt your workflow too much. You can even add comments to specific webpages\u2014as if the entire Internet was your own personal Google Doc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Fabric has even more cool features. You can create \u201ccollections\u201d<\/strong> of content and share them with people by sending a link; your collaborators won\u2019t need to download anything. And if you\u2019re obsessed with Notion or Trello, there\u2019s a color-coding<\/strong> feature that looks very similar to their kanban<\/em>-style platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So far, my favorite is the search feature<\/strong>. It labels your content using AI so that you can find anything you need easily. I\u2019m not sure how well this works yet. When I added a photo of Tokyo Tower, I found it easily when I searched \u201cTokyo\u201d and \u201cTokyo Tower,\u201d but not when I searched \u201ccity.\u201d Maybe I<\/em> need to label the photo? Their website and tutorial aren\u2019t clear as of now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Another potential issue: The desktop app and the Chrome extension apparently work slightly differently. As the company founder wrote<\/a>, \u201cThe desktop app lets you make a note from anywhere on your computer. The browser extension lets you capture any web content you want, and shows your notes overlaid on the websites that they are about.\u201d (sic) So it\u2019s unclear whether you need both<\/em> the browser extension and the desktop app to get everything to work on your computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
