Finding peace<\/h2>\n

I\u2019m writing this on the day following the election. Personally, I\u2019m glad it\u2019s over. While I\u2019d like a smooth transition to the new regime, I\u2019m doubtful. What I do know is that life in the United States will continue. In four years we\u2019ll go through this madness again.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, I\u2019d like to remind my readers of something said by Eleanor Roosevelt, \u201cGreat minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.\u201d<\/p>\n

We are in this together<\/h2>\n

Getting angry over who won and who lost will not help our country. Being joyful that your candidate won and the enemy lost will not endear you to others. Right now, we need to come together and figure out how we can protect the rights of everyone, even those with whom we disagree. \u201cGreat minds discuss ideas\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

I firmly believe that partisan politics protects our country. We need people who put the interests of businesses first, but we also need representatives who think about social needs.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s when we balance the needs of everyone that our country succeeds.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This is a scary time for some of us. People are wondering whether they\u2019ll have healthcare next year. Will taxes go up? Come down? Can our economy withstand the uncertainty?<\/p>\n

Make a difference<\/h2>\n

I rarely allow myself to enter the political fray. Today, more than ever before, I\u2019m very concerned about our government. Although I cannot change anything at the federal or state levels on my own, I can make a difference in my community. Instead of talking about people and events, I intend to follow Mrs. Roosevelt\u2019s words and discuss ideas on what I can do to transform my little corner of the world. I\u2019m not going to get mad at friends who disagree with me about our government.<\/p>\n

Alienating my neighbor does not solve a problem, only widens the gap.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

You have a voice in how our leaders govern. We can\u2019t only be active during election time. We have to be active all year long and provide our representatives with our opinions. Know your state and federal leaders. Communicate with them. Discuss your ideas with others. Let\u2019s move forward with the new government and work together for the best.<\/p>\n
