Do you remember your first tootsie pop? Do you remember choosing the flavor from the colored wrappers? The anticipation growing while removing the exterior paper. Knowing that the center had that magical tootsie roll? You knew it was in there and would be until you got to it, but you couldn’t wait. Lick, lick, lick. Slurp.
Your tongue is brown or purple or red. Your lips are wet and sticky. That paper stick is wearing off, stained with the color of the candy. Lick, lick, lick. Your tongue is filled with flavor, getting raw from the repetition. Your desire for that tootsie roll is rising. Lick, lick, lick. Just a little bite. Just a little bite off the center rise. Out comes the pop. Chomp, chomp on the candy.
Back goes the pop. Lick, lick, lick. Ouch! That hard candy stuck your tongue. Lick, lick, lick. Another bite off the edge. You just can’t wait for that prize. Your excitement overwhelms your patience. Another bite. The candy crumbles. Your mouth fills with bits. Crunch, crunch, crunch. There’s parts and pieces of hard candy. But there’s the tootsie roll! You can wait no longer. BITE!
With the finalization of the vote on the stimulus package still to come and the revving up of the presidential election, we’re like kids with tootsie pops. The anxiousness for answers is overwhelming. We just can’t wait. Is the package going to pass? Is it going to include the housing element? How will it affect the market? Will it affect the market? What will the election bring? Who’s going to be president? What will he or she bring to the country? What about social security, health care, education, illegal aliens, Iraq? We want to bite and get to the prize in the center, get the answers we’re so needing, but instead we have to unwilling wait – impatiently wait.
