HTC announces newest Windows Phone, the HTC 8X
HTC has announced the newest Windows Phone in the series’ lineup, the HTC 8X, which will run the latest version of Windows Phone OS, Windows Phone 8, by Microsoft. HTC Android users may be surprised to see this run this fall as HTC’s crown jewel, ahead of Androids. The device is set to be available in early November.
The device will weigh 4.6 ounces, and measure 0.39 inches thick. The HTC 8X has a large 4.3 inch display (0.5 inches smaller than the newest HTC EVO), boasts a 1280×720 Super LCD 2 display covered by Gorilla Glass, and comes in a variety of colors (red, black, blue, and yellow) as featured above.
A powerful $200 device
With built-in Beats Audio, and a dual-core 1.5Ghz processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and 1800mAh battery, it is a powerful device. The HTC 8X features a front-facing 2.1-megapixel, 88-degree wide angle lens and a rear-facing 8-megapixel camera with a f/2.0 lens.
Carriers will include AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon, and it will cost $199.99
Is that the HTC 8X or a Nokia Lumia 920?
It has been noted that the HTC 8X and the Nokia Lumia 920, both set to be released this fall, are quite similar in their aesthetics, but the insides of the two are considerably different.
CNET notes, “One look at the two phones and you wonder if HTC will have a lawsuit on its hands. They’re eerily similar, and HTC’s apparent mimicry doesn’t make a strong case for the originality of its flagship Windows phone. It’s a bizarre move for HTC, and one that doesn’t fit into its typical design philosophy. At least the HTC Windows Phone 8X seems to be well-crafted. HTC’s phone is significantly smaller, lighter, and thinner than the Lumia 920, which may give it a leg up for those who prefer more pocketable devices. We’ll have fun comparing the two devices side by side.”
