Vimessa – iPhone 4 app
The newly launched Vimessa is an iPhone 4 app that allows you to send free video messages (“vimessages”) to any mobile number, even if the recipient doesn’t have an iPhone. Users with the app simply open the vimessage, those without are texted a link to see the vimessage online, solving the issue of iPhone users that love FaceTime but are restricted to communicating only with other iPhone users.
The company says “Vimessa is like text messaging, but video instead of text – we think of it as Video Voicemail.” The company says the only users that can Vimessage you are people that have your mobile number and they say messages are secure.
This app makes perfect sense for anyone whose text voice doesn’t match their audible voice – we’ve all gotten a text from someone that sounded dry or somber but the sender meant it to be enthusiastic. Additionally, the app is helpful for people who want to text but just haven’t caught on to typing on a smartphone (that keyboard is pretty small).
Currently, Vimessa only supports iPhone 4, but they say iPad and other devices are coming soon.
