Momstamp network for families: Yelp and Angie’s list meets Facebook

Momstamp launches to help connect parents

New moms are constantly scouring the internet for reviews and advice on anything from Ear, Nose, and Throat specialists to stylists who can cut your child’s hair without traumatizing them. Take it from a mother who has switched pediatricians four times in four years, a good solid referral is worth its weight in gold.

Startup, Momstamp, has launched their website this month and their aim is to help parents connect with their friends, acquaintances, and others in their community to get referrals for local service providers. Momstamp was created by California-based entrepreneurial mothers, Paulette Light, Staci Miller, and Julie Hermelin.

Their web platform is like “Angie’s List and Yelp meets Facebook.” They have some pretty solid backers too, namely The Honest Company, an incredibly popular consumer goods provider that focuses on selling ethical products with non-toxic ingredients in them.

Why Momstamp was launched

Their goal was to make it easier for busy parents to find useful information if they’re needing advice on local babysitters, doctors, party planners, and more. You will be able to ask friends for help in your search, get recommendations, start projects, and assist other moms with questions.

In a recent press release, Staci Miller, co-founder of Momstamp, explains, “Moving through each milestone in our families’ lives – from decorating a baby’s first nursery, to finding summer camps, to managing our children’s doctors, to remodeling a kitchen – can be both exciting and very overwhelming. Having the support and recommendations of your friend community is very powerful.”

Goal: reducing research time. Challenge: growing the network.

The website is currently being most used by mothers who live in major metropolitan areas of California. The challenging part will be getting the word out in smaller towns that are less connected online. These smaller communities may have a hard time supporting the traffic necessary to build a strong network. Hopefully news of Momstamp will spread.

There’s no doubt that Momstamp will reduce research time for mothers looking for local information. The website is easy to navigate and has a friendly and supportive vibe, which is a stark contrast from some of the things you might find on your community bump.com forum. This website will be a great resource for mothers if it takes off.
