MoveMent makes it impossible to cheat the system
We often refer to New York City as the Wild West of real estate, and for good reason – there is no Multiple Listing Services (MLS), and the governing rules are quite different than most of the nation, as is the landlord culture. Part of the cure has been found in MoveMent, a New York based startup launched last year that adds legitimacy by rentals by working exclusively through smartphones.
That’s right – no one can upload a listing unless they’re on a smartphone. Why? Because a smartphone has GPS, and the system can verify not only when the pictures were taken, but exactly where.
Agents and landlords get an email when they post a listing that generates HTML code so they can embed it in any platform and showcase the listings elsewhere, like a blog or website. Additionally, renters can to save favorites and share them over email, text, Facebook, and Twitter, again emphasizing the speed of renting, which is particularly appealing to renters in markets where inventory is tight and getting a rental can be tough.
In other words, it is known as the app to finally put landlords, brokers, and the public on equal ground.
MoveMent ups their game in two BIG ways
Short of a year after their launch, MoveMent has made some pretty impressive updates that could position them as one of the most popular real estate apps in the city. They note that starting this week, they are the only portal for New York agents to advertise on Realtor.com aside from going through the Corcoran Group. Listings can now be syndicated not only to Realtor.com but to Zillow as well.
In the newest version, they have added also live geo-tagged videos which capture video listings with a similar functionality to Instagram & Vine. MoveMent Co-Founder, Ran Refaeli said, “Why nobody has done it before is beyond me, but the fact is we are the first!”
We are equally stumped, but excited about the widespread implications of live geo-tagged videos in the real estate space.
