Perch, a two-way webcam monitoring app you can actually afford

Perch is a cost-effective security measure

Small workplace-based security can be tricky. Insurance coverage might ride on your company having a certain number of cameras or a certain amount of areas monitored—for example, an on-site safe, if you have one—but the high initial cost of hiring a dedicated security provider can be daunting, especially for a low-budget startup. For this reason, a jury-rigged system, however basic, might have to do for the time being. With this in mind, consider Perch, a two-way webcam monitoring app.

As someone working with or for a startup, what can Perch do for you? For starters, it’s another free (for now) two-way video app—if you’re looking for a quick, simple, one-on-one conference with someone in private, it’ll do the job. More importantly, however, Perch has amazing potential as a DIY security system.

Especially if you just work in a small, open space (i.e., an office or some other such rented room), installing a small webcam to monitor the entire area is a breeze. For fifteen dollars and less than ten minutes of your time, you can keep watch over your quarters from home, day and night.

Measures to consider before getting started

Obviously, there are some privacy-related factors to consider with such an application. Using Perch to ensure that your employees are staying focused and on-task may be tempting, but your workplace isn’t the office space from 1984 (we hope). Big Brother shouldn’t be watching. Instead, utilize the cheap, intuitive technology that Perch offers to cover your front desk, your break room, or your own personal office for your ease of mind.

It may not be a complex, multi-layered security system, but if you’re running on a budget, Perch will more than suffice. Perch’s site is currently offering incentives for early sign-up and social media promotion, with the top prizes including a Galaxy tablet, a VR headset, and a home automation system. In addition, the top five hundred promoters will win a year’s worth of Perch’s premium service for free; whether you’re in need of Perch’s services or not, it can’t hurt to get over to the Perch website and check it out.
