Luxury loft in trendy part of Barcelona
Last year, AGBeat introduced you to famed Spanish architect, Barbara Appolloni’s lego loft, a tiny fold-out space built in a former pigeon loft in one of the hottest parts of Barcelona. While living in Spain, I learned that most spaces are a great deal smaller than the Texas acre and two story home I great up in, but even this tiny loft is small for the apartments there.
The 260 square feet feature all of the amenities of a normal apartment, but with a twist – everything fits together like legos, perfect for the bachelor it was designed for. The design was inspired by the furniture on boats that are created to save room and stay behind closed doors. The other inspiration was the clean lines of a small Japanese home.
Previously, video footage was available, but now it has been featured on Houzz.com through pictures. The panoramic rooftop view and fold-out features allow the single room to function as a full home, even hosting dinner parties on the roof.
The only private area is the toilet, and the owner notes that a major advantage is working nearby, allowing him to keep all work belongings outside of his home. “It’s almost like living in a big closet,” he notes.
Since we first told you about the loft, the owner still owns it but has moved to a different part of the city, and says he spent very little time there as he traveled and worked most of the time. That doesn’t bode well for others looking to downsize dramatically as many are now doing, but it does speak to a tiny loft being best suited for certain personality types. The Japanese inspired design is creative and flexible, with everything in reach, and for some, it is a comfortable cocoon, but for others, it is too tiny to spend time in.
