Get to know the background of any Pinterest image
If you’re on Pinterest, you know that it is common for users to grab images online, and put them up on Pinterest. Sometimes, it’s harmless, like a neat recipe that has a website’s watermark on it, and you can trace it back to the real source and get more information. Other times, it’s blatant theft (“look at the new tile we just laid, hire us to do the same for you” with an image stolen from HGTV).
Using Google Image Search, the Pin Search Google Chrome Application adds a “search” button to each pinned item on Pinterest when viewed through Google Chrome.
With one click, you can immediately learn the original source of any image, regardless of credit given by the Pinterest user(s). You can also find similar images or learn more information about the person who took or shared the original photo.
Think of it as a bloodhound dog for your Pinterest experience. This quick button can give you insight that helps add context to any pin being shared on the visual bookmarking site. While this won’t completely solve the attribution problem, if it were to go mainstream, it could most definitely help users to understand the relevance of attribution and diminish claims of originality.
