If you run a business, listen up
Pinterest recently rolled out a new feature that will have you wondering why you couldn’t do this before. “Rich Pins” are Pins that include extra information right on the Pin itself; no more redirecting to outside sources. There are six type of Rich Pins: article, movie, recipe, app, product, and place. I’ll be covering all but the first two.
First let’s look at why you need this new feature. Rich Pins allow to get your information to your followers directly, they no longer need to follow a bunch of external links to get what you want them to have. This saves them time and clicks, and you the frustration of trying to troubleshoot why someone cannot find the appropriate information.
Why you’ll drool over Rich Pins
When you get ready to try out Rich Pins, you will need to prep your site with Meta tags. If you’re not familiar with Meta tags, you may want to do a little research, or contact your developer for help, as appropriate Meta tags will be crucial for making this new feature work the way it’s intended. Once you’re all tagged, you’re ready to try out these Rich Pins. Sound good? Start here by clicking the “get started” button near the bottom of the page.
Getting to know your options
Now on to the Pins. The first type of Rich Pin we’re looking at is the Recipe Pin. This type of Pin allows you to teach your curious culinary clan how to make your favorite dishes without leaving the Pin itself. Recipe Rich Pins will include ingredients, cooking times, and serving information to get your followers excited about trying something new.
App Pins are my favorite out of the bunch and here’s why: App Pins include an install button, so Pinners can download your app without leaving Pinterest. Give your followers a little bit of information about the app and place the install button. This gets them excited to share it with their friends and more downloads for your latest creation. The caveat? For now, App Pins are only compatible with iOS apps, but hopefully Android support will be on the way soon.
Next up are Product Pins. These include real time pricing, availability, and where to buy. Again, a great feature for Pinners who are quickly scrolling through; if something catches their eye, the information they need to purchase is available immediately. Pinners may also get notifications when prices drop more than 10%. This will encourage your followers to Pin things they like, but want to wait for a sale to purchase.
Place Pins help you inspire your Pinners to plan their next adventure. These Pins will include a map, address, and phone number of places and spaces you love. It also looks like your pictures will be a bit larger than a normal Pin. When someone clicks on a Place Pin, it pops up big, bold, and bright; encouraging your followers to Pin it and share it. Hint: This is perfect for Realtors doing neighborhood profiles, perfect for brands doing Pub Crawls or scavenger hunts, and so forth… think beyond travel!
Boost your reach, friends
Rich Pins have the potential to boost your reach, as your followers never have to leave the Pin to get the information they want. If you’re new to Pinterest, or just looking to trying something new, Rich Pins are definitely worth a try.
