Pinterest science: when to post, how often, and more

The science of Pinterest

As a business that utilizes social media to gain customers, you know how important the content is to your followers.

What you may not realize is that there is a science to posting on different sites. A recently released study around consistency, frequency, and timing of posts on Pinterest can help you understand what your followers want.

How many times to pin per day

People want consistency from your business. They’ve followed you to get ideas and information, and they expect you to provide it.

Unlike Facebook that minimizes the number of posts that your followers see, Pinterest’s Smart Feed algorithm personalizes what the user sees in their account, so that even if you make 30 pins every day, you won’t overwhelm your followers. According to the research, you should be pinning a minimum of five up to a maximum of 30 per day to build your following.

The best time of day to pin

Following the number of pins, is the timing of the pins. When you pin at different times, you reach different users. The best time of the days for pins is in the afternoon and evenings, which makes sense. When people get off work or pick up their kids from school, they spend some time on Pinterest getting ideas.

Although the best day to make pins is Saturday, people tend to look for different things on different days of the week. On Mondays, they want fitness pins. Tuesdays are about gadgets. On Wednesday, halfway through the week, they want inspirational quotes. Thursdays are great for fashion, while on Friday, funny GIFs and humor peaks the top of the charts. On Saturday, they want travel information. On Sunday, the top pins are about food and crafts.

Fun fact about Pinterest use

Around 70 percent of Facebook users log in daily. Only about 17 percent of Pinterest users log in every day. Most of the Pinterest users (52 percent) log in less often than weekly. When your business stays consistent with a good frequency, you’re going to hit those users who don’t check in as often.

The best way to succeed

Growing your following on Pinterest, Twitter, or Facebook means more opportunities for you to demonstrate your products to your customers. Watch how well your pins do and find the optimal time to make posts for your company.

You may want to use a program such as Buffer for Business to schedule posts when you’re off duty. Make the most of social media by using available tools to help you be more productive.
