Plancast gets sexy new features
Facebook Events integration
Today, Plancast announced they have added Facebook event importing to save users time by allowing users to put their confirmed Facebook events on their Plancast without having to recreate the event from scratch. It sounds like overkill if you only have one event a month, but if you’re balancing a great deal of events, this is quite the time saver and all you have to do is link your accounts.
New search function
Another feature (and I think their most useful) is the new “search” function which allows you to search for users and events, so if you want to know what’s going on in Austin, you can search by city or if you want to see who all is already using Plancast that you know. Try searching for “real estate” and anyone who has mentioned that in their bio comes up as well, so it is a pretty useful search tool for connecting with others, as publishing your plans is an unspoken invitation to others.
Tagging users
The last feature announced today is the ability to tag other users, for example I upload an event that I’m going to and I know my husband Benn is going, I can type “+BennRosales” (his username) and it tags him as an attendee. Although I see the reasoning for this feature, I think it’s a mistake as it appears to be open to all users, and I feel like people can now RSVP assumptively on my behalf. This option can be turned off in the user settings (which I plan on doing), but it seems as if this has a bigger downside than upside.
I have done a poor job of keeping up with my Plancast account, but I have found that when I have been active that I’ve made connections I might not have otherwise, and I’m not a spontaneous type, so planning ahead is more my style than foursquare. These new updates certainly make Plancast more enticing to me.
