Rentals…

I tried to show six rentals today to a prospective tenant.

#1 had been “already rented”. “I don’t know why it’s still on the MLS”. Answer – because you sir are a too lazy f-wad to remove it, or… wait for it…  “I also have one that just came available and isn’t on the MLS yet”. Oh really, spring that no co-broke and didn’t need to advertise in a newspaper trap on somebody else thanks. I suspect that the “already rented” was rented weeks back.

#2 No keys in the lockbox. Call listing agent, “oh my”. Listing agent calls the other tenant to let me in. Other tenant can only open the outer door, and not the actual door to the apartment. Pointless waste of time. Also it’s raining. I hear the backstory in the office later – the landlord was ticked about a lack of showings so just rented the apartment out herself and took the keys from the lockbox the day before. Get it off the MLS then. puh-puh-pleeze.

#3 had been “already rented”. “Jeez I have no idea why the Showbook people let you book an appointment”. Answer – because you sir are a too lazy… you get the drift. And yes, there was also another rental not yet on the MLS all fresh and shiny.

#4 No lockbox, so we actually have to wait for someone to come out with a key. We go to the wrong floor and the key doesn’t fit the lock. The sign on the door says “In Case Of Fire Please Rescue My 22 Cats, 0 Dogs.” We’re calling down to the key master the key doesn’t do squat when the door opens and a young woman opens the door. She could easily be beautiful, but isn’t. Sad eyes trumping stretch marks. We probably scare the crap out of her – I’m six foot and my buyer and his dad are all big too.

Apparently this is the wrong door. The proper door is around the side somewhere. Thanks key master for allowing us to go to the wrong door. Anyways at the right door now, and after sad eyes removes the two by four butting up against the stairs wedging the door shut, we can head up to the attic apartment.

Ceiling just too low. No hope here. I wish they wrote in MLS remarks “Ideal for Hobbits” or something.

#5 Holy Cow! Keys in a lock box. I’m actually excited by this small mercy. Reasonable size, and price. It’s a possibility.

#6 No lock box, “just came onto the market”, and the key is under the mat. Actually quite nice inside, though the bedroom is kinda over done on wood paneling. All in all, not bad, very reasonable price, decent area.

It’s a go on #6.

I call the listing agent. She grimaces when she gets the call with a “what now?” tone. Perks up slightly when I say my client wants to move in. I ask what she wants for as application process (it varies so much here). “Um oh… I just left the office… well just any application form is fine you guys probably have one (we do) and credit check is $50”.

“It’s what?!”

“Unless you want to run the credit check”.

We use our forms for the application and fax off the credit check report request and charge my client $11 for it. It comes back about 2 hours later and everything is faxed off to the listing agent. I call her up and let her know everything has been faxed in to her, and tell her what a swell kid he is.

And now, we wait.
