Easily send push notifications to your site visitors, get them to re-engage

All you need is a bit of java

Have you ever received a notification on your smartphone, or in your browser, from a company you love, offering a discount if you click through the notification and finish a purchase you started? I have, more times than I’d like to admit, and occasionally, if the deal is good, I may even use the notification to return to the site and check out what’s on sale, or complete an order.

A new service, Aimtell, provides you with the ability to re-engage website visitors by sending real time web “push notifications.” Aimtell allows you to create those notifications I mentioned above. To get started, you’ll need to install a few lines of javascript code. Aimtell says the code is extremely lightweight, so it will not slow your site down, but the tracking code enables them to push notifications to your site visitors. For a little bit more about how this works, please see the Aimtell site.

No customer installation needed

Once Aimtell is installed, new website visitors will see a prompt encouraging them to receive notifications from your site. Visitors will see a simple “allow” or “deny” prompt to opt-in. Once they’ve approved these notifications, they are added as a new subscriber and you can send them notifications at any time. Visitors do not have to install any software and you can send notifications even when they no longer have their browser open.

Segment customers for targeted notifications

When you’re ready to start sending notifications, you can segment visitors based on any combination of attributes or events. You can segment your users based on username, gender, or age; or create custom events to target users who have purchased a product or watched a video. You can also segment users based on their device type; mobile versus desktop. There is also the option to segment based on location (country, state, and city) and how often they visit your site.

You choose the content

Once you’ve set your target audience, or, you can decide to send notifications to your entire audience, you can then create your push notifications. Notifications are small, snippets of information, accompanied by your site icon and optional link. You can use notifications to tell subscribers about your latest sale, new blog post, new client, or even re-engage users who have abandoned their shopping carts. There is no limit to the number of messages you can send at one time. Choose to send them instantly, or schedule them to be sent out at a later time, allowing you to manage and automate your marketing campaigns.

After you’ve set up your notifications, you can see how many users received and clicked through them with analytics and reports.

If you do not currently have a service in place to handle notifications, Aimtell, is definitely worth a look.
